Hot Dog Cookies
Are these the cutest cookies EVER?!?! I didn't invent this recipe. I just stole it from Erin at makingmemorieswithyourkids.blospot.com How could I NOT steal it, right?!?! They are that cute! And the perfect summer cookie! Here is what you need:
3/4 cup butter
* 1/4 cup sugar
* 1/4 cup brown sugar
* 1 egg yolk
* 1 3/4 cup flour
* 3/4 t. baking powder
* 1/8 t. salt
* red, green and yellow food coloring
*vanilla frosting (store bought works just fine)
Cream together the butter, sugar and egg yolk. Slowly add the flour, baking powder and salt and mix well. (You know the drill. Put all the dry indregients into another bowl and mix them first.)
The original recipe said to refrigerate it before you colored the "hot dog" dough but that was too stinkin' hard. So I took 1/3 of the dough and colored it. You do this by adding 40 drops of red food coloring and 5 drops of green food coloring. I know it seems like a lot but it makes the perfect hot dog color.
Now refrigerate the dough for 4 hours.It's really easy to shape this cookies. Make the "buns" about 2 or so inches long. I just used my pinky to put an indent down the center.Make the hot dogs the same size as the buns.
Don't put them in the oven now. You will need to freeze them for about 20 minutes. This step is important. If you don't, they spread out too much.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 15 minutes. Time will depend on the size of your cookies.
After they have cooled off. Color the frosting red and yellow (for ketcup and mustard).
