Keep running

In this business we always enjoy an entertaining service.  Here in the South lots of folks preach fire and brimstone at a funeral.  Its always nice when family and friends can get in a good laugh during the eulogy.  Here is an excert from a recent service that made me smile.

"Dad was a fierce competitor, was trying to improve his running times and was obviously dedicated since he didn’t miss a day running for 6 years. My cousin Frazier recently told me a long forgotten story. Dad was in Cades Cove, Tennessee which has a beautiful 10 mile loop that is closed off to cars in the morning. I’d have to say it was one of Dad’s favorite runs. Early in his run he passed some younger flat bellies that looked like they were heading out for a run; of course dad being dad his competitive spirit was sparked thinking I’m not going to let these guys pass me. Dad was running at his normal pretty decent pace when he heard steps coming up behind him. So he took it up a notch, they were still gaining on him, he extended himself a little more, so much that soon he was soon he was running full out trying to stay ahead of the youngsters. At the end of the 10 mile loop, while Dad was exhausted in his mind he had "won" his race, when the group caught up to him at the end, imagine his surprise when he saw them all on horseback. "
